The existing school’s infrastructure, dating back to the 1950s and structurally non-compliant with current seismic norms, led to an open architectural competition for a new school building. The project’s complexity lies in the complete reconstruction of the school while the site continues to remain operational for classes. For this reason, a phased construction and demolition plan was proposed, adapted to both French and Peruvian standards.
To mitigate noise from the Panamericana Highway, the sports area is positioned closest to the road as a sound buffer, while the academic area is located at the far end of the site, organizing the terrain into three distinct strips: The first strip (academic area) is conceived as an academic program open to pedagogical exploration, with intermediate spaces connecting the programmatic areas.
The second strip (green area) serves as an ecological zone for activities such as urban agriculture, recycling, and the observation of local flora and fauna.
The third strip (sports area) includes the existing multiuse courts and a coliseum planned for a later phase.
Each school (preschool, elementary, middle, and high school) has its own open spaces. The regulatory limit on the number of levels is used strategically to create overlaps, without compromising their independence.
